Introduction

I couldn't have a year go by without at least one trip up to Canada's winter playground in the Yukon Territory. :-)

This trip is all about giving you the opportunity to experience dog sledding on a frozen lake with mountain backgrounds. We will also fly deep into Kluane National Park and land our private charter helicopter out inside the park to give you the opportunity to photograph some of the massive glaciers and Canada's highest peak, Mount Logan.

This workshop is all about putting you in the right place at the right time to capture bucket list northern lights images, landscapes most people never get a chance to see, and introduce you to the wildlife of the Yukon.

The highlights include a private charter helicopter flight into Kluane National Park, dog sledding and photographing professional dog sled teams, northern light photography, photographing some of the most exotic wildlife Canada has to offer,

Itinerary

Day One – March 3, 2019 – You arrive in Whitehorse and I will greet you at the airport and take you to our hotel for the week.

Tonight, we will gather in the lobby at 5:30 and then go for a group dinner at 6:00pm. We can discuss the week’s activities and I can explain how we will balance late night aurora outings and day time activities

If the skies are clear and the northern light forecast is favourable, we will head out for our first night of aurora hunting in the Yukon.

We will be staying at the Westmark Inn in Whitehorse

Dinner is included tonight

Day Two – March 4, 2019 – This morning we have a special wildlife photography session set up. We will be photographing Canada Lynx, Caribou, Dall Sheep, Mountain Goats, Musk Oxen, Bison and Mule Deer.

After our morning photo session, we will head to Sky High Ranch and a warm lunch will be served before we hop aboard our snowmobiles and head out into the back country around Fish lake.

If the skies are clear and the northern light forecast is favourable, we will head out for a night of aurora hunting in the Yukon.

We will be staying at the Westmark Inn in Whitehorse

Lunch is included tonight

Day Three – March 5, 2019 – Today is our day to head further west to Kluane National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kluane National Park is almost all ice. Over 2,000 glaciers—some a kilometer thick. About 4 percent of them surge; that means water forms between rock and ice, enabling the glacier to move more than a mile in a month. Others are vanishing. The Yukon has lost 22 percent of its glacial cover due to climate change in the last 50 years. Canada’s highest point, Mount Logan (19,551 feet), is here too, but you can’t see it by road. In fact, very little of the park is accessible by road. To really experience Kluane, you need to hike, or fly. Today we fly deep into the park on our private helicopter

If the northern lights are out, and the skies are clear, we will remain in the area of Kluane and photograph the northern lights around the mountain ranges of Kathleen Lake or Kluane Lake.

We will be staying at the Westmark Inn in Whitehorse

Day Four – March 6, 2019 – This morning we will have a leisurely breakfast and conduct a scheduled image critique and editing session after breakfast for a few hours.

In the afternoon we will head out to the back roads and streams just north west of Whitehorse and photograph the landscape scenes as the sun descends in the western skies.

We will have a packed dinner in the cooler just in case we remain out into the night skies to watch the aurora dance.

Day Five – March 7, 2019 – If we got a good nights sleep we will be heading north today to photograph the sunrise around the frozen marshes and lakes in the Fox lake area.

From here we will head back to Sky High Ranch for a warm lunch. After lunch we will spend the rest of the day with the dogs…

If the skies are clear and the northern light forecast is favourable, we will head out for a night of aurora hunting in the Yukon.

We will be staying at the Westmark Inn in Whitehorse

You will each get the opportunity to drive your own sled team out around Fish lake for an hour. After that we have set up a special photo session with the professional sled dog mushers.

The mushers will push their dog teams on a track that we have created on the snow on Fish Lake. We will be able to photograph the dog teams in front of mountains and cedar forests. They will even run right past us so you can photograph them up close and personal in full stride.

We will then head back to Whitehorse and grab a good dinner and discuss one of the most exhilarating things you will have seen and photographed

We will be staying at the Westmark Inn in Whitehorse

Lunch and dinner is included today

Day Six – March 8, 2019 – I wanted to give you one last photo session with some of the most exotic wildlife in North America. We will spend two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon photographing these amazing creatures in an intimate and safe setting.

We will arrive at our location at 10 am and photograph till noon, then break for lunch, and go back and photograph more animals from 1pm till 3pm before the sun descends behind the mountains at 5:30

For one final night we will keep an eye on the skies and be ready to go photograph the northern lights over the Yukon landscapes.

We will be staying at the Westmark Inn in Whitehorse
